Approaching Despair
The sounds of life around me
Seem alien, unknown.
Somehow a bitter destiny
This reality I own.
I cannot feel but deeply,
For there is no other way.
A privilege I pay for steeply,
Holding happiness at bay.
My eyes brim, filled with liquid pain,
No comfort intervening.
I fear my life will be in vain,
Just pain, bereft of meaning.
