I learned cursive in private Catholic School, as well, and had beautiful handwriting … until I got to college. I favored note-taking by hand rather than tape recording, and so beauty gave way to the distortions of speed … but still handwriting. I miss the beauty of fountain pens for actual letter-writing, and I have always felt that — just as hand-made gifts are especially meaningful over purchased, factory-made gifts — a handwritten note or letter carries the same energy of meaningfulness. Enjoyed reading this piece, so thanks for posting it, Jon.
